When is the best time to moisturize?
A good quality moisturizer is a must-have product in your skincare arsenal.
Choosing the right moments throughout your day to moisturize your skin may actually be the secret to a healthy and glowing appearance.
So with this in mind, when is the best time to apply your moisturizing balm?
- After you shower
Our skin feels dry after we shower because water evaporates off your skin quickly. We all know that dry skin can become itchy and incredibly uncomfortable.
You may have already heard that the best time to apply a moisturizer is directly after showering. This is because your skin has the most moisture when it is damp, and most moisturizers are more effective when the skin is already hydrated.
If that wasn't enough to convince you to get into the habit, moisturizing after you rinse may also help reduce the appearance of tell-tale signs of aging skin, like wrinkles and fine lines in the long-term.
2. Before Exercising
Before you hit the surf, running track, or yoga studio, consider caring for your skin first. Moisturizing your skin before a workout (especially outdoors) may be the secret to better skin. Moisturizing your skin before you exercise with a lightweight and non-comedogenic (i.e., does not block pores) may reduce the dryness that can occur after your workout.
3. After you shave
As well as removing unwanted body hair, shaving also removes the outer layer of surface cells that protect your skin. Applying moisturizer to the skin after shaving may help defend newly exposed skin from drying, as well as soothe any razor irritation.
4. Before Bed
Research shows that our skin's production of sebum peaks earlier in the day and lessens into the evening. Losing water from the skin is called transepidermal water loss, and it happens toward the end of the day and into the night. Replenishing the loss of the skin's natural hydration with a nourishing moisturizer may help to promote a healthy and glowing complexion.
